Revolving Door

Reflection in a Revolving Door
after a photograph by Lee Friedlander

The reflection
in the revolving door
pretends to be
five objects.

The first stares vacantly
at its second like a man
who had died of fright.

The third listens in a storm
for the
double entendre.

The fourth sleeps
pelted by a rain
of eyes.

The fifth wishes it could
slip away
like a balloon
from a child's hand.

The reflection in the revolving door
is
blindly obedient
to itself.
